Helping Kids Play Ball, Have Fun

"Little League was my first, and best, exposure to organized sports. I learned a lot: what it feels like to have to perform under pressure; how to be part of, and have obligations to, a team; how to win; and how to lose.  (We Indians got pretty good at losing.)

"I saw that hard competition could bring players on both teams together.  I also saw that the desire to win, if uncontrolled, could turn some people -- adults as well as kids -- into jerks.

"But most of my memories of Little League are positive.  And I still like to play first base."

Dave Berry

Having fun while learning teamwork, respect, self-discipline and how to win and lose with a positive attitude.  That's the experience of generations of Little League players.  The tradition continues here in Arlington.

Arlington Little League was chartered by Little League Baseball when the County Park District ended its baseball program.  Boys and girls from 5 to 12 learn the fundamentals of the game in an age-appropriate manner.

Three million children in countries around the globe enjoy playing Little League. But there are fewer than 100 employees of Little League in the world.  That is possible because nearly one million adult volunteers run Little League programs at the local level.  Some are parents of current players, but many are parents of children who participated in the past.

These volunteers give freely of their time to provide a healthy and wholesome family-oriented activity for the children of our community.

More than 125 Arlington volunteers make Little League work in our community. They do everything from coaching teams to buying uniforms, from serving on the Board to writing the yearbook.

Volunteers contribute thousands of hours of service to Arlington Little League.  That is a major reason Little League is such a great value.
