Q: What is the game and practice schedule at this level?

Minors teams begin their practice season on Saturday, March 10.  Expect one weeknight practice and one weekend practice throughout the preseason.

The game schedule will be posted and distributed by March 14.  The first game is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, with an Opening Ceremony scheduled for Sunday, April 15.  From this point on, teams will have one weeknight practice and a Saturday game each week, with weeknight games every few weeks mixed in.

In early June, the schedule shifts to a postseason tournament.  All teams participate in this tournament, and it is intended to be a fun way to transition to the next level.  The season ends on Saturday, June 23.

Q. When will I hear from a coach?

Teams are formed between February 15 and March 1.  Coaches will begin to contact their players by March 1.

Q. What does a typical game look like?

Teams are kept small in order to maximize hitting and fielding opportunities for each player.  At the beginning of the season, coaches pitch a soft, safety ball to players while fielders learn to field the ball and take appropriate action based on the game situation.  At the halfway point of the season, players begin to pitch to each other.  Three outs now constitutes the end of an inning.

Games are scheduled for two hour time slots, but usually last about an hour and a half at most.

Q. What does my player need?

The league provides a team t-shirt and a hat for each player, as well as a tee, helmets, catcher’s gear, and bats at each game.  Players at this level need their own glove, and will need to bring their own water, juice, etc. to each game.  Cleats and baseball pants should be worn at this level.

Q. What else is required?

Your participation is a parent.  Even if you don’t step up as a head coach, parents must be present at these games.  Helping players learn how and where to throw the ball, and which direction to run and when to run there is a full team effort.  More importantly, it really is fun!
