Q. When will I hear from a coach?

If you played Majors last season, you’ll return to the same team.  You may already know your coach!  You may choose not to return the same team, but you would have to notify our Player Agent, and reenter the draft.

All players registered for Majors, and not returning to a Majors team, are scheduled to attend a fun and friendly skills evaluation session on either Sunday, February 26 or Sunday, March 4.  Players are scheduled with friends, past teammates, and players of similar age and skill level to maintain a low pressure environment.  Commitment for each family should be no more than 45 minutes.

At these sessions, coaches, league officials, and parents can confirm together that players are registered for the appropriate level of play.  Coaches and league officials prepare for a draft on Tuesday, March 6.  Teams are formed that night, and players are contacted the next day.

Q: What is the game and practice schedule at this level?

Majors teams begin their practice season on Saturday, March 10.  Expect two weeknight practices as well as a Saturday and a Sunday practice throughout the preseason.

The game schedule will be posted and distributed by March 14.  All games are played on Sundays at 2:00 at Barcroft #1.  The first game is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, with an Opening Ceremony scheduled for Sunday, April 15.  From this point on, teams will have up to one weeknight and one Sunday practice, plus one weeknight and one Saturday game each week.  This is a big commitment!

In late May/early June, the schedule shifts to a postseason tournament.  All teams participate in this tournament, with a champion declared on Saturday, June 16.

Q. What’s the deal with all-stars?

Arlington Little League sends teams to the District 4 All-Star Tournament at up to three different levels:

  1. 9/10 YEAR-OLD ALL-STARS – 9 & 10 year-olds who make Majors are generally talented enough to participate on this team.
  2. 10 & 11 YEAR-OLD ALL-STARS
  3. LITTLE LEAGUE MAJORS – The best 11 & 12-year-olds make this team, which competes for a chance to go all the way to the Little League World Series in Williamsport!

These teams require an almost daily commitment to baseball practice and/or game from the end of the ALL season until early to mid-July.  Talk to your coach and stay tuned to the website for details if you’re interested.  Contact our All-Star Commissioner if you have any questions.

Q. What does a typical game look like?

At this level, a game looks like a real game of baseball.  Players pitch to each other, steal bases, and learn to bunt.  Only nine players play in the field at any time, and only nine players are in the batting order at a given time.  Games are often closely contested, and though our coaches know that winning isn’t the most important thing, we all recognize that every team should know they have a shot at winning.

Games are scheduled for two hour time slots.  No new inning may begin after an hour and 45 minutes.

Q. What does my player need?

The league provides a team jersey and a hat for each player, as well as helmets, catcher’s gear, and bats at each game.  Players at this level need to provide their own glove and baseball pants, and will need to bring their own water, gatorade, etc. to each game.
