Children with mental and physical disabilities enjoy playing weekly games in a unique program, side-by-side with “buddies” from the Majors division.
ages: 4-22
Q. What is the game and practice schedule at this level?
Challenger teams begin their season on Opening Day — Sunday, April 15. There is no preseason practice schedule. All games are played on Sundays at 2:00 at Barcroft #4. The season ends on Sunday, June 24. There are no practices during the season.
All Challengers registrants are invited to participate in an International Challenger Jamboree in Virginia Beach in May.
More information is available from the Little League website.
Q. What does a typical game look like?
Players are paired with “buddies” from Majors teams, who run the bases and play the field with their Challenger partners. Players hit a soft, safety ball off of a tee or pitched to them by a coach. All players bat and play the field each inning.
Games are scheduled for an hour-and-a-half, but usually last only about an hour.
Q. My child is challenged, but highly functioning. How do I know if Challengers is right for him/her?
You can try any level of play in Arlington Little League during the preseason (March 10 -April 13). If it’s not the right fit, you can switch at any time. Our many Challengers coaches and administrators have years of experience with this program, and can counsel you on what may be best for your child.
